When you suffer from tooth decay and have a cavity in your tooth, you will need a dentist to repair it with a filling. These fillings are usually made of dental amalgam (silver in colour) and normally required in your back teeth.
A tooth filling is quite a normal thing to have, but some people can feel quite self-conscious about silver fillings that show when they smile. Luckily, the classic silver filling is not the only option.
Nowadays, the white filling serves as a long-lasting alternative that you don’t even notice is there! White fillings come in a range of shades to closely match the natural colour of your teeth.
First, we’ll have to clean your tooth and remove any plaque, decay, and any fillings you may already have in place. Once the tooth cavity is clear, we will then fill it with white filling material.
Next, we will mould the filling to match the shape of your teeth, and then harden it with a curing light. Finally, we will trim the filling to make it look like a natural part of your tooth. By the time we’re done, you won’t even notice it.
You should look after your white fillings as you would your normal teeth. Be sure to brush your teeth twice a day (gently), floss between them, and avoid substances that can stain them. For more advice, visit our Oral Hygiene page.
Your tooth can still be very sensitive after receiving a filling, so we would also advise you to:
