Gum Disease

The most common cause of premature tooth loss

Also known as periodontitis, gum disease can affect individuals from a very early age through to their elderly years. It leads to early tooth loss.

Periodontitis occurs due to a build-up of plaque on the teeth from poor or irregular oral hygiene. However, the condition is generally painless and often goes unnoticed.

How you can treat gum disease

Treating gum disease is often quite simple. You can usually cure mild cases by keeping good oral hygiene and allowing your gums to return to a healthy state. Visiting your dentist or dental hygienist for a thorough clean will remove any hardened plaque (tartar).

For more severe cases, you would normally need further medical and dental treatment, such as antibiotics, deep cleaning, tooth removal, or gum surgery.

How you can prevent gum disease

To prevent gum disease, or treat it as it occurs, you need to make sure you remove all the plaque from your teeth every day.

Our hygienist will further explain and help you to understand the importance of having healthy gums, and will offer advice on how best to maintain good oral health.

Amazing staff and so caring :) reception are wonderful, nursing team brilliant and dentist… Roopa you are a star 🌟 I am so anxious when attending the dentist and the thought of having root canal without sedation was overwhelming. Roopa was very reassuring, calm and understanding with me and she did everything at my pace. I tried a new coping strategy of listening to music on my headphones which helped keep me distracted. Roopa and her team were very thoughtful and gentle, keeping me calm throughout. Thankyou so much to a great team! :) x
